General Instructions
Students applying to transfer the the U-M must be in good standing, both academically and socially, at the institution(s) attended. Admissions officers will consider your college grade point average, the quality and quantity of your transferable college credit. We look at your high school credentials as part of the application review process, but the more college work you have completed, the less emphasis is placed on your high school record.
In addition, individual schools/colleges may require specific course prerequisites, portfolios, and auditions, which are also taken into consideration when evaluating applications.
If you did not take the ACT or SAT as a high school student, don’t worry: those scores will not be required when you apply to Michigan. But if you did take the ACT or SAT in high school, please make sure that your scores are sent to the U-M so they can be included in your transfer application.
If you took the ACT/SAT as a high school student please have the testing agency send your scores to the University if they were not sent with a previous application. If you did not take them as a high school student than they are NOT required for admission. You can request to have them sent online using these links:
MELAB, TOEFL, or IELTS test scores are required of all speakers of English as a second language. Please click here for minimum score requirements.
All transfer students are required to submit the following prior to the deadline date:
- Completed application via The Common Application
- final official secondary school record, including 9th through 12th grades, test data, and graduation date
- official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions
- Essays
- application fee
- required test scores (ACT, SAT, MELAB, TOEFL, IELTS) if applicable
- requirements for specific Schools and Colleges (e.g. portfolio, audition request, etc.), if applicable
The application, application fee, transcripts, and test scores should be submitted to the University of Michigan Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 1220 Student Activities Building, 515 E. Jefferson, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1316, except for the Stephen M. Ross School of Business and the College of Engineering.
